In the Bodega Bay there are many important abiotic factors that affect the surrounding organisms. The temperature of the water is important that it stays balanced because in this area the water is cold for up welling (makes the water rich in nutrients and maintains the life in the bay). Another important factor is the sun because it provides aid for the plants to grow. Without sunlight, plants will not grow and will not survive. Salinity is very important to the environment of marine life. If the salinity in the water is not maintained, it will be very hard for marine life to stay healthy and survive. Organisms perform a process called Osmosis; the ability of water to move in and out of living cells in response to a concentrated dissolved material, until an equilibrium has been reached. Another key factor in this environment is the tidal pattern. Tides wash in food and for some organisms, be a mode of transportation. A very dangerous abiotic factor for most organisms is the rocky shore. With the large amount of exposed rock, it makes it very hard for smaller organisms to live and survive in this environment.
